Highlander Family Newsletter

Hello, Highlander Families! ❤️💛🎃
It's the last week of October, and we're wrapping up the month with a little Halloween fun at North! Students and staff are invited to show their spooky spirit on Friday, October 30, for our Halloween Dress-Up Day!
We love seeing everyone's creativity, but please remember that school is still in session, and all costumes must be school-appropriate. Here are a few guidelines to keep the day fun and safe for everyone:
🎃 Costumes must follow the school dress code.
👻 No costume masks that cover the face. We need to be able to identify students throughout the school day.
🧙 No weapons or realistic-looking prop weapons, including toy guns, knives, swords, or other dangerous-looking accessories.
🩸 No excessive gore, graphic violence, or frightening imagery.
🍬 No costumes that are discriminatory, offensive, or inappropriate for school.
📚 Costumes should not interfere with learning, movement, or participation in class.
We can't wait to see our Highlanders get creative and have some fun! As always, thank you for helping us keep North a welcoming, safe, and spirited place to learn.
Have a wonderful week, Highlanders! GO NORTH! ❤️💛

Puffs is a magical comedy that takes place at a certain school for wizards in England. Throughout the show, we follow The Puffs, a group of cozy, loyal, and kind students trying to make The Puffs better than ever. The story centers around Wayne Hopkins, Megan Jones, and Oliver Rivers, three students who are considered outcasts by the rest of the school, and their journey through their seven years at school. Puffs is funny, cozy, and will be a lot of fun to watch!
Running November 5th, 6th, 7th, 12th, 13th, and 14th.

Our NEHS Fabric Arts students are putting their sewing skills to work creating handmade baby bibs for Bags of Love, a local nonprofit providing comfort and essential items to children experiencing crisis.
We need your help! ❤️ We're collecting donations of new or unused fleece fabric to help our students bring this thoughtful project to life.
✂️ Have some extra fleece tucked away in your craft supplies? We'd love to put it to good use!
📍 Drop off donations at the NEHS Front Office.
Thank you, Highlander community, for helping our students turn creativity into kindness! ❤️💛

🌼 Stop by the Commons during school hours to visit the ofrenda, reflect, and help us celebrate the lives and memories of those we love.

Attention parents of juniors and seniors!
Your student should have received an IB registration form (green handout) in their IB Language and Literature class last week.
Any student who wants to register for exams for this year needs to fill out a registration form before October 30. Please click here for a copy of the form if you need it.
Each exam costs $114.50, but families who qualify for SNAP benefits or other federal income assistance programs can test for free.
Please reach out to Kendall Larsen at larsen_k@4j.lane.edu if you have questions about registration and/or payment - we want all students to be able to take IB exams and don't want money to be a barrier, so let us know if financial assistance is needed!
Students who take IB exams and receive a passing score of 4 (on a scale of 1 to 7) can earn 12 college credits for all HL subjects and 4 college credits for all SL subjects. This is an awesome opportunity for students to earn college credit while in high school - don't miss out!

Ritsumeikan Primary School in Kyoto, Japan, will host their 5th annual online cultural exchange event for students studying Japanese outside Japan.
The program features a variety of presentations created by Ritsumeikan's fifth-grade students, including traditional Japanese dance, koto (Japanese zither) performances, and introductions to Kyoto’s traditional industries.
Participating students will simply observe the presentation, or have the opportunity to share their thoughts and impressions, exchange ideas, and ask questions in small-group discussions via Zoom. This will allow them to communicate in both English and Japanese, learn from one another and deepen their understanding of each other’s cultures in a casual setting. This is a fun opportunity for students from 4th grade to 12th grade studying Japanese.
