Family Newsletter 12/16
Hello North Eugene Families,
As we head into the final week of school before winter break, it's a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the hard work and achievements of the past few months. This week, we’re focused on wrapping up the semester with care and celebrating the season together. Please remind your students to check in with their teachers about any outstanding assignments and to take advantage of resources available to them.
We hope you enjoy a restful and joyful winter break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in January, refreshed and ready for the second half of the school year!

Dear Class of 2025 and Parents/Guardians,
The 2025-2026 FAFSA is now open!
Why file the FAFSA? Each year, Oregonians have access to millions of dollars in state financial aid and billions of dollars in federal aid. Even if students are unsure of their plans after graduating, filing the FAFSA will give insight into the options available. There is support available for any post-high school track – certificates and certifications, 2-year degrees, and 4-year degrees. The FAFSA is the key to unlocking eligibility for different types of financial aid:
- Grants: Money for college you don’t have to pay back.
- Scholarships: Money for college based on merit, talent, or academic achievement.
- Work Study: Opportunities to work on campus to earn money while taking classes.
- Student Loans: Money students receive to help pay for college but will have to pay back.
The easiest way to file the FAFSA is online at the https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa Remember, filing the FAFSA is always free. The FAFSA will never require a fee to apply. Students and parents (of dependent students) must create an FSA ID at least three days before filing the FAFSA.
Resources needed to create an FSA ID include:
- Social Security Number (SSN)
- Full legal name
- Date of birth
- Mailing address
- Personal email address
- A memorable username and password
- FSA ID
- Federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned from 2022
- List of any federal benefits received
- Asset information including bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
- Records of untaxed income (if applicable)

The Stacey Axling Scholarship due December 16
Dear Class of 2025,
The College & Career Center is excited to share news of a $1,000 local scholarship that will be awarded to one North senior to help attend college or trade/vocational school.
The Stacey Axling Scholarship, in memory of NEHS alum Stacey Axling Class of 2002 and UO alum Class of 2006, is now open and due December 16th by 4pm.
Any senior attending a two or four year college or university or trade/vocational school in the fall of 2025 is encouraged to apply!
This is an easy scholarship application! Students are asked to write a short essay (maximum one page) about a favorite quote and what it means to them, include any volunteer or paid work experience, and write a short paragraph describing their educational and career goals.
Students will need to ask a NEHS staff member to write a letter of recommendation on their behalf. It is highly encouraged students request this letter soon!
Click here for application details and instructions on how to submit!
Questions? The College Career Center is here for all students & families and happy to help with any assistance needed. Students: swing by the CCC anytime or email to set up an appt. Parents: I'm happy to meet in person, over Zoom or phone if preferred. Email: moran_c@4j.lane.edu
