NEHS HIGHLANDER STUDENT NEWS

P/NP Deadline
As a reminder, per GRACC policy students and parents can requests a P/NP grading scale in your course up to two weeks after midterm grading.  This gives us a deadline of April 26th to get the forms turned in and plans laid for students.  This is often an important support for a student that may show signs of struggling at the halfway point in their courses.

Agreement on a Pass/No Pass grading option must be agreed upon by student and

teacher. A teacher or counselor must submit the Pass/No pass approval form no later

than two weeks post quarter grading day.

Courses with a P/NP grade do not have an impact on the GPA and they are not weighted.

Students and Parents need to discuss the impact of a P/NP on a transcript with a teacher

or counselor. There can be impacts of choosing this grading option on post-secondary

education options. Once a P/NP grading option is agreed upon, that decision is final.

The process for a P/NP should be done in writing (an email will suffice) with the parent/care giver of the student.  The P/NP form must be submitted to the counseling office and include a copy for the grade level administrator.  www.nehs.4j.lane.edu/counseling

4J COMMUNITY NEWS
HOOTS Youth Action Council
I am excited to share that HOOTS is starting a Youth Action Council this spring! HOOTS’ Youth Action Council (YAC) will consist of 10-15 students from the schools that HOOTS serves in the Eugene/Springfield area. Those students will gather to build community, gain professional skills, and contribute their voices to the design and implementation of HOOTS services.

Combatting adultism is a central HOOTS value and the YAC is one step in the right direction to make sure that youth are meaningfully empowered to give input and impact the services that are geared toward them. This also means that our youth will be properly compensated for the value of their work – all participants will receive $30 per meeting or event they attend and receive a free dinner at each.

Our Ask: We’re asking our community partners to nominate any high school aged youth that they’d think would be a good fit for the first iteration of our YAC. We’re hoping to gather a group that is diverse in skills, interests, and experiences, but overall, they should have a strong interest in youth mental health. Please feel free to share this with teachers and staff at your school!
To nominate someone, you can visit the link  here and fill out the form. Students can also nominate themselves.

All nominations need to be submitted by April 20th. You can view our recruitment timeline on the attached flyer.
Thank you for your continued partnership and dedication serving youth!

Neurodiversity Family Support Nights
Many of you have requested recordings of our Neurodiversity Family Support Nights. We decided to do an audio only recording of Rachael Young's talk on ADHD 101: Executive Functioning and Empowerment.

Here are the links. It was a wonderful presentation! So much great and useful content...especially about the executive functioning pieces we all deal with!!

I paused a couple of times to leave out the small group discussions, and one time I stopped accidentally instead, which is why there are two recordings.

P.S.  Remember to Save the dates of May 1st and June 5th for our upcoming ND Family Support Nights.  A flyer describing our terrific speakers and topics will be coming to you within the next few days.
