About our theater program:

NEHS’s theater program is vibrant, with beginning and advanced acting classes, comedy improv, and multiple theatrical productions each year. Under the direction of Aaron Thomas, North produces a play in the fall, a musical in the Spring, and student-directed one-act plays.

NEHS offers the following theater classes:

Acting 1

This course offers a foundation for an organic approach to acting. Through class discussions, theater exercises, improvisation, scene work, and film clips, students explore the craft of performance and build confidence in presentation and collaboration.

Acting 2

This course looks deeper into different approaches to acting. From Uta Hagan’s techniques to Sanford Meisner’s method, students learn to present honest, heartfelt responses to imaginary circumstances. At the end of the course, students direct and perform one-act plays in front of a live audience.

Comedy Improv

The best improvised comedy comes from study, planning, and rehearsal. This course provides a foundation in the roots of modern sketch improvisation and explores facets of comedy as a whole. It culminates in a lively night of comedy, presented in the style of the show Who’s Line Is It Anyway before a live audience.
