Principal Newsletter 1/10/2021
As we move into the third week of this trimester, we have a full five days coming at us next week! Of important note is that office hours for teachers will be changing as of this week. Our hope is that students will find this adjusted time more accessible, and make it easier to take advantage of this great opportunity with teachers (see below for details!). Also this week, we will honor Martin Luther King, Jr. in our annual MLK assembly (which has been adjusted to fit our online format this school year), taking place during our Advisory time. We hope you have a great week!
Schedule for this Week
With five days this week, Wednesday will be a Flex Day and Advisory will occur. Below is the schedule for the week. For a complete bell schedule and calendar, please see our website at: https://nehs.4j.lane.edu/daily-schedule/
Monday: ‘A’ day (P1, P2, P3), live instruction begins at 8:30am
Tuesday: ‘B’ day (P4, P5, P0), live instruction begins at 8:30am
Wednesday: Advisory at 10:15am
Thursday: ‘A’ day (P1, P2, P3), live instruction begins at 8:30am
Friday: ‘B’ day (P4, P5, P0), live instruction begins at 8:30am
Opportunity for Help
We will be adjusting our teacher office hours starting Monday, Jan. 11th. Currently, office hours are from 3:00-4:00 pm. They will be moving to 1:30-2:30 pm and will occur on the same days they do currently (every A and B day). Our hope is that moving office hours closer to the end of students’ synchronous school day will allow for greater access. If you have any questions about office hours, please reach out to your student’s teacher(s).
NEHS Theater & Film Company
The NEHS drama team has been working on a new project we’re calling “Zoomed.” In an original episodic production written and produced by the North Eugene Theater and Film Company, 10 high school students come together to take a virtual credit recovery class during the COVID-19 pandemic after having failed Global History. As they learn together, they unravel secrets in their own histories and explore how to navigate complex relationships in a virtual environment. Come check us out at OUR NEW WEBSITE!!!
LTD Bus Passes
It was recently shared that LTD will start requiring bus passes again on February 1, 2021. Late last week LTD shared with us that students may continue riding for free (without a current pass) until schools return to in-person instruction. At such time that this occurs, we will update you on how to access a current LTD bus pass.
If seniors would like their senior picture included in the NEHS yearbook, please remember that the deadline for submission is January 31st. For more details on requirements and how to submit, please visit our website at:

Library Book Check-Out System
Good news! We’re able to check library books out to students again! Students can log in to the NEHS library catalog:
https://search.follettsoftware.com/metasearch/ui/13305 to search for and place holds on books. Books can be picked up Thursdays between noon and 3 pm, or by appointment if those times don’t work for your family. Email our librarian, Amary Taylor, or stop by during her office hours, with questions or for recommendations. She loves to talk to students about books and misses your kids so much – have them stop by her Zoom or follow on Facebook! Also, check out the new NEHS Library webpage:
From the Athletic Department:
OSAA has once again revised the 2020-2021 sports calendar. To take a closer look at the adjusted season you can use the following link:
School District 4J is tentatively planning for athletic workouts and conditioning to begin in late January if COVID conditions improve and metrics allow. To be included in these workouts students will be required to register online (registration information will be available soon). There are two important components to the registration process that students will be required to complete before being cleared for activity.
- Providing proof of health insurance for the student.
- All students registering for athletics must have a completed physical on the approved state form. These physicals are good for two years from the time of the completion. Physical form link: https://www.osaa.org/docs/forms/PhysicalExamination-English2017.pdf
If there are questions or concerns involving this information please email Corey Nicholsen at email@example.com.
School Choice Season
It’s School Choice Time – Come see what our schools offer! School choice requests—students seeking to enroll in a 4J school other than their neighborhood school—are accepted in an order determined by lottery. To be included in the lottery, 4J residents must apply by Sunday, January 31. Out-of-district residents will have the opportunity to apply to transfer to 4J schools in March.
If you have any friends or family members who are considering school choice, please invite them to come learn more about all of 4J’s outstanding schools and their school choice options!
Virtual School Visits During the month of January, every 4J school is offering live virtual visits or info sessions with an opportunity to ask questions. In-person school tours will not be held this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
NEHS will host an event on Tuesday, Jan. 19th at 6:00 pm
