NEHS Principal Update

Principal’s Note

Next week begins our third week of distance learning for NEHS students, staff, and families.  Again, there has already been lots of learning on everyone’s part, and certainly more to come!  This week brings no school on Friday, which means a change in schedule compared to last week, and we will also host a distribution event for materials and class resources that some students will need to attend (both of these are detailed below).  Thank you for all your questions and feedback up to this point.  If there is anything we can assist with, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Be well!

No School Friday – Schedule is Different!

Tuesday: ‘B’ day (P4, P5, P0), synchronous instruction begins at 8:30 am
Wednesday: ‘A’ day (P1, P2, P3), synchronous instruction begins at 8:30 am
Thursday: ‘B’ day (P4, P5, P0), synchronous instruction begins at 8:30 am

In the Know with Canvas

Since we moved to Canvas this year as our Learning Management System, this is the tool teachers will be using to communicate student grades.  ParentVue will no longer be an accurate place to view student progress in classes.  Fortunately, Canvas allows parents/guardians to sign up as an Observer in each of their student’s classes!  This allows you to see what is going on in a class, track assignment completion, and view grades.  Parents and guardians are highly encouraged to take advantage of this feature.  Below are some resources to help you get started.

Materials Distribution on 10/8 & 10/9

While distance learning means most of what students do is on the computer, there are a handful of classes that need to get materials to students.  Teachers will communicate directly with students if they need to pick up materials or resources for their class.
Please have student ID numbers available when you arrive.  This event will be similar to technology pickup, where students/parents will arrive in the east parking lot in their car, remain in their vehicles, and staff members will bring the items to students/parents in their cars.  Signage at the event will indicate where materials are located, and cars will proceed through the line until they have all the needed materials.
Below is our schedule for this event:
Thursday, October 8th
9th grade: 12:00pm – 3:00pm
10th grade: 3:00pm – 6:00pm
Friday, October 9th
11th grade: 8:30am – 11:30am
12th grade: 12:30pm – 3:30pm
Optional make-up for all grades: 3:30pm – 6:00pm

*Families will multiple students may choose a single time to attend*
